Baker Perkins Historical Society - Virtual Books

BAKER PERKINS AT WAR

OVERVIEW

This "virtual book" is an attempt to create a comprehensive and dynamic index which, it is hoped, will in time encompass most of Baker Perkins' activities relevant to the military, from the Americn War of Independence to the end of the Cold War, and from all parts of the Baker Perkins business around the world. These represent a number of disparate entities having little or no experience of working for the military, reorganising their businesses almost overnight to tackle the very different demands (and working practices) of those who now dictated the pace of engineering production in countries across the world. Inevitably, this process was not without some friction but often brought out the best in both parties resulting in some brilliant solutions to production problems and the availability of many more much needed guns and other weapons.

The observant reader will not fail to notice our inclusion of a number of illustrations of army field bakeries in this record of Baker Perkins group company activity over the years, rather than the images of guns and other "war" hardware one might have expected. The reason is simple - there is another tale to tell, see - "The Preface" and, should you want guns - or almost anything else connected with Baker Perkins click here and here. We believe that this "Virtual Book" format allows easy access to that too.

To use this resource you will need to be connected to the internet, simply click on any of the blue 'links' to be taken to a relevant section of our two Websites. Each Website section has its own collection of 'links' thus facilitating a "Magical Mystery Tour" into the far corners of this history. Please note that not all of the links have yet been installed and connected. You will understand that this is a long (and tedious) process that will take some time to complete. However, we would very much appreciate receiving your comments. Enjoy your trip.

HYPERLINKS - A WORD OF WARNING

It is sometimes possible that clicking on a "link" appears to have deposited you in an area of the website seemingly of no direct relevance to your search. It is possible of course that we have made an incorrect connection but it might also have been a deliberate ploy to get you to scroll around until you find the information you seek. On the way, you might catch sight of another interesting item that sends you off in another direction and expose yet more of the websites' contents.
